"Because .564*1.6*2*(1.85) = 3.33888, or 334% weapon damage." Most skills get like 120-140 best out of damage multiplier. Molten Strike/Barrage scale with projectiles. Each one gives (1/(3+i))% more damage. For barrage this is 25%, 20% 16.7%,14.3%,12.5%,11.5%... more damage per projectile.
So a 10 Projectile barrage (4 from skill + enchant (1) + quiver (1/2) + dying sun (2/3) + bow (0/2)):
Ends up being (weapon damage * .61 damage effectiveness) * 10 projectiles = damage
100 phys damage bow with 1aps has 610 DPS in this scenario.
Molten strike calculations are harder, but I assure you it's really good. Even better than BF, but requires more investment.
Comparatively a one-handed sword 100 physhas with 1aps makes for 334 weapon damage in the same scenario. But this is where other things come in...
Blade flurry has a 60% MORE multiplier on attack speed. This means that for every attack per second of AS you add, you actually add 1.6 attacks. This is actually huge.
A one-handed sword 100 physhas with 2aps makes for 334
Barrage usually ends up with ~6 attacks per second. An equivalent level of attack speed ends for BF up as 10 APS.
When you add in the fact that BF has much better support gems in terms of damage. You must also consider the opportunity cost of having 10 projectiles. Also dual wielding melee weapons on average have much better base damage. Like 80% more better.
